About Us

Reliable Legal Representation in Westminster

What Our Clients Can Expect From Us

The law is complicated. Unfortunately, that is the reality of our legal system. Our practice philosophy, however, is simple.
Our clients can EXPECT that we will handle their case aggressively, competently, efficiently, and as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we can’t control the court’s dockets, opposing counsel, witnesses, and the availability of experts. As much as we dislike it, sometimes cases get delayed. However, in some cases, delays can work in to your advantage.
Our clients can EXPECT that we will keep them informed of the status of their case and will respond to their phone calls, letters, and emails promptly. Generally, we return phone calls and emails within 24 hours or less. Occasionally, though, response times are longer. We are, however, available after hours and on the weekends. Simply call us on our main number, 410-876-6000. Your call will be routed to one of our attorneys and not an answering service.
Our clients can EXPECT that we will litigate only when absolutely necessary. Litigation is expensive. More importantly, litigation is unpredictable. That is why we have developed a successful mediation practice, particularly in family law cases. Criminal law cases, however, are different. While we still believe that resolving a criminal or serious traffic violation case through plea bargaining is usually better, we wouldn’t advise our clients to accept a plea bargain if we believe the state could not prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. There are, however, some situations where plea bargaining is a better alternative. Anything can happen when you go to trial. Every case, criminal or civil, has its own unique set of facts. There are no hard and fast rules for determining if a case should be resolved through litigation, settlement, arbitration, mediation, or plea bargaining. Although, we are trained to litigate, it is our philosophy to go to trial only when there is no better alternative.

Our Expectations

Our expectations are simple. We expect our clients to respect us for the professionals that we are, and to cooperate with us fully so that we can achieve the best possible results for them. Finally, we expect our clients to understand that although the practice of law is a profession first, it is also a business. Our fees must be paid in a timely manner and in accordance with the terms of each retainer agreement.

Kirk Seaman

Kirk Seaman is 58 years old. He is happily married and has two children and three grandchildren. Mr. Seaman graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic High School in 1977. He went on to earn an Associate of Arts Degree in pre-law from the Community College of Baltimore where he graduated with honors in 1980. Thereafter, he attended the University of Baltimore, College of Liberal Arts, graduating in 1982 with honors in jurisprudence. He completed his legal education at the University of Baltimore School of Law graduating in 1985. He is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Carroll County Bar Association, and Baltimore County Bar Association. He has been in the private practice of law since 1987. Mr. Seaman opened his law practice initially in Eldersburg, Maryland, in 1988. He moved from Eldersburg to Westminster in 1997 when we was appointed by the Carroll County Circuit Court to be a Special Settlement Master, a position which he continues to hold today. As a Settlement Master (now Settlement Officer), he facilitates settlements between litigants in the areas of family law, accident law, and workers’ compensation law. Mr. Seaman also acts as a private mediator and arbitrator. As a private mediator, he works tirelessly to mediate family law cases so that parties to a divorce action can avoid costly litigation. As an arbitrator, he listens to testimony and reviews evidence, much like a judge, then renders a decision. Many parties to a legal dispute choose mediation and arbitration as an alternative to costly and time consuming litigation.
Mr. Seaman handles cases throughout the state of Maryland and practices in the areas of motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall, wrongful death, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, criminal law, juvenile law, domestic violence, family law, mediation and arbitration. Mr. Seaman maintains offices in Carroll County, Baltimore County, Frederick County and Howard County. For those who are too injured to travel, Mr. Seaman will schedule home and hospital appointments.
When he is not practicing law, Mr. Seaman enjoys spending time with his wife and family. He also enjoys fine dining, listening to music, playing the drums and guitar, photography and traveling.
